Counselling Ideologies – Challenges to Heteronormativity

Ideologies is published by Ashgate Press. The idea behind the book is to challenge assumptions that rest on the notion that heterosexuality is the norm, examining what it means for other sexualities, namely lesbian, gay and bi-sexuality.

The book is aimed at therapists and was largely authored by them, with one or two exceptions. I am not a therapist, but I have an interest in issues of equality and was, as a result, invited to contribute a chapter that highlighted the issues that affect people of colour who are also lesbian, gay or bi-sexual. The chapter is entitled, The Colour of Queer, and is a collaborative effort between myself and Dr Roshan das Nair and Dr Catherine Butler.
